How to Spend February Vacation in Providence

USA Today recently rated Providence number 5 out of 10 great places to go with kids in 2024.
Here’s how we think you should spend your February Vacation in Providence.

  • Book your stay at the Christopher Dodge House:
    We are a family-friendly bed & breakfast. Children 12 and under stay for free! Our spacious Superior King & Twin rooms are perfect for families. They all feature a large layout with a king bed, twin bed, and a private bathroom. The comfy reading chair, desk, and fireplace/ wood stove is a nice addition. The hot plated breakfast options are included in your stay, as is the parking and wifi. Enjoy a goodie bag filled with homemade welcome cookies! We also offer the best mid-week stay special.
  • Enjoy a hot chocolate or a latte from any one of our local cafes:
    Rise ‘N Shine Coffee Bar just next door to our bed & breakfast is the perfect spot! Located on the lower level of the historic 1858 Christopher Dodge Carriage House, they offer the highest quality locally roasted coffee and fresh pastries.

  • Visit all the nearby attractions:
    The RISD Museum’s art’s collection contains more than 100,000 pieces dating from ancient times to the current day, of which 2,152 of them are on display. They offer free admission on Sundays from 10 am–5 pm and Thursdays 5-8 pm. 

    Roger Williams Park offers 3 attractions in 1. The Museum of Natural History and Planetarium; catch a planetarium show. The Botanical Center; take part in Fairy Garden Days: Hike & Build. The Roger Williams Park Zoo; now through February 28th, enjoy half-priced Zoo admission.Explore the Providence Children’s Museum where their exhibits engage your child’s curiosity and creativity through play. They offer water activities, an outdoor garden, and a lab where young innovators work with real tools, from glue guns to sewing machines.

    Skate on over to the Bank Newport City Center in downtown Providence. Here not only will you find ice skating, but the first outdoor rink to host ice bumper cars! These super cool ice bumper cars can move forward, backward, and sideways with a full 360 turn radius. Just bump anyone that gets in your way! The skating center is open daily 10 am-10 pm.   • Catch a show or a game:
    The Providence Children’s Film Festival will be held February 16-25 at multiple venues within walking distance of downtown Providence. “More than just movies for kids. Films, workshops, conversations: Through the art of the moving image, PCFF inspires a new generation of thinkers and doers.” 

    The Providence Bruins hockey team is alway a hit! They will be playing 5 games during the month of February at the Amica Mutual Pavilion here in Providence. Many of the game nights have themes, giveaways and promotions. The Me+3 Special gets you 4 tickets for the price of 3!

Family friendly lunch/dinner options:
Angelo’s: Not your average Italian restaurant. There’s a train that travels around the perimeter of the restaurant’s ceiling; bring your quarters.

Bayberry Beer Hall: Run by a local couple that have 2 kiddos of their own. They offer a great kids menu, highchairs, and changing tables in the restroom. Kids menu items include, grilled cheese, patty melt, and chicken fingers.

Flatbread Company: You can watch the wood-burning oven bake the pizzas that are made with organic ingredients. They have free crayons for kiddos and menus feature children’s art.

Red Stripe: A menu for the “Little Folks” with the best mac and cheese.

Waterman Grille: Great river views out the window and kids menu. Items include, pasta, grilled cheese, mac & cheese, chicken tenders, and burger.

Hemenway’s: Kids menu? “We do, but only for the most well behaved children.” Items include, pasta, burger, fish and chips and chicken fingers.
