A Passion for Hospitality

Monica’s story began long before Christopher Dodge House. At just 25 years old, she and her late husband, Frank, purchased their first bed and breakfast on Nantucket. What began as an ambitious leap into hospitality quickly became a lifelong passion.

In 2002, Monica and Frank took on their biggest project yet—the Christopher Dodge House, a beautiful Victorian mansion built in 1858. While the home had incredible character, it also required extensive renovations to transform it into the welcoming 14-room bed and breakfast guests enjoy today.

Frank, an engineer by trade, played an instrumental role in restoring the historic home, helping preserve its character while preparing it to welcome generations of guests. Together, Monica and Frank built more than a successful business—they created a place where travelers from around the world could experience genuine New England hospitality in one of Providence’s most treasured historic homes.

More Than Just a Place to Stay

Over the years, Christopher Dodge House has welcomed guests from around the world. Some visit Providence to tour Brown University, Providence College, RISD, or Johnson & Wales University. Others come for WaterFire, performances at PPAC and The VETS, business travel, family celebrations, or simply a relaxing weekend getaway.

Regardless of the reason for their visit, Monica has always believed that exceptional hospitality begins with making guests feel genuinely welcome.

One quote from the Providence Business News article perfectly captures her philosophy:

“Once guests walk in the door, we’ve got them.”

That simple statement reflects the heart of Christopher Dodge House. From our homemade breakfast each morning to personalized recommendations and attentive service, we strive to make every guest feel comfortable, cared for, and at home from the moment they arrive.

Persevering Through Every Challenge

Like many small businesses, Christopher Dodge House has weathered its share of challenges. From economic downturns to the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Monica has remained committed to preserving both the historic inn and the personalized guest experience that sets it apart.

Following Frank’s passing, Monica has continued to lead the inn with the same determination, warmth, and resilience that have defined Christopher Dodge House for decades. She often says that while the building is historic, it’s the people inside who make it special.

Monica also credits the inn’s success to an incredible team. Several staff members have been with Christopher Dodge House for many years, helping create the welcoming atmosphere that returning guests know and love.

A Legacy of Hospitality

More than twenty years after opening Christopher Dodge House, Monica’s vision remains the same: preserve the history of this beautiful home while offering an exceptional guest experience.

Whether guests are visiting for a special occasion, a college tour, a theater performance, or simply to explore Providence, Monica and her team take pride in sharing local recommendations, serving a homemade breakfast, and making each stay memorable.

It’s this commitment to personalized hospitality that has earned Christopher Dodge House countless returning guests, glowing reviews, and recognition as one of Rhode Island’s favorite places to stay.
